The GP Impanis-Van Petegem started in Brakel this morning and took the peloton through the Provinces of East-Flanders, Hainaut, Walloon Brabant and Flemish Brabant. The finish line was situated in Haacht. The hilly 199.6 kilometres course featured no less than thirteen short hills, with the last one coming only twenty kilometres from the line. There was still no breakaway after fifty kilometres of racing, due to a high pace in the peloton. Budding, Devriendt, Guillemois, Haag, Kirsch and Molly finally managed to go clear and were granted up to 3’35’’ advantage. A large group, with among others Tiesj Benoot, attacked with 55 kilometres to go and quickly caught the early breakaway. The riders at the front then rode really hard to stay away. In the finale, Matteo Trentin accelerated and only Jean-Pierre Drucker was able to jump on his wheel but the Quick-Step rider eventually dropped him on an uphill section. Despite the hard work of Lotto Soudal at the front of the peloton, the Italian soloed to victory, ahead of Drucker. André Greipel won the sprint of the peloton and finished in third place.
