Right from the start in Bredene it was clear that crosswinds and echelons would play their part. After a turbulent passage through the Moeren, after around 50 kilometres, the peloton was torn apart. Kris Boeckmans and Moreno Hofland reacted well and were in the first group of thirty riders. For a moment it seemed that the group Boeckmans and Hofland could stay ahead, but a second group of thirty riders came back to the first group when the riders had passed the Moeren. Also the bunch came back after chasing for fifty kilometres. After two nervous local laps with a lot of attacks a reduced pack rode with a blistering pace to the finish line. Kristoffer Halvorsen guided himself the best through a chaotic sprint and won the Handzame Classic. Adam Blythe finished second, Kenny Dehaes third. Moreno Hofland was the first Lotto Soudal rider on a sixteenth place.
