The first edition of the Famenne Ardenne Classic (UCI 1.1) takes place on Wednesday in Marche-en-Famenne. The race is organized by the Cycle Club Libramont-Chevigny and consists of 129 kilometres in the Famenne region, followed by three local laps of 22 kilometres each. The challenging course of this Famenne Ardenne Classic highlights the hilly landscape of the area and features no less than nine climbs. The first one, the Côte de Wéris, comes after only seventeen kilometres of racing. It is 5.3 kilometres long and averages 3.5%. The Côte de Dochamps (3km at 4%) and the Côte de Nisramont (2.8km 4.5%) are next on the menu. Before reaching the final circuit, the riders will have to tackle the Côte de Bonnerue (3km at 4.5%) and the Côte de Crawy (2km at 6.8%). The final 80 kilometres include four ascents of the Côte de Charneux (2km at 4.9%), of which the last passage at the top is at only ten kilometres from the finish line in Marche-en-Famenne. There is no doubt that local heroes Rémy Mertz and Maxime Monfort want to get a good result on this selective course. Lotto Soudal will be the only WorldTour team at the start, but many Pro Continental teams, such as Wanty-Groupe Gobert, Roompot- Nederlandse Loterij or WB Veranclassic Aquality Protect will surely offer some fierce opposition.

Line-up Lotto Soudal: Sander Armée, Sean De Bie, Moreno Hofland, Rémy Mertz, Maxime Monfort, James Shaw, Tosh Van der Sande and Jelle Vanendert.

Sports director: Kurt Van de Wouwer
