In the first hour of the race a lot of riders tried to escape from the bunch but the speed in the pack was too high to get away. Just before the start of the local circuit in and around Nokere seven riders set up a break: Bille, De Tier, Schreurs, Van Rooy, De Winter, Forfang and Reinders. The escapees started, after 82 kilometres, the first of seven local laps of fifteen kilometres. Cofidis, BMC and Lotto Soudal controlled the gap. They had a maximum advantage of two minutes. The Lotto Soudal riders were well represented going into the last local lap but due to crashes and a nervous finale they didn’t get in a position to sprint for victory. Nacer Bouhanni won Nokere Koerse with an impressive sprint. Adam Blythe became second, Joeri Stallaert third. Jasper De Buyst was the first Lotto Soudal rider on the twentieth place. Friday Lotto Soudal will ride the Handzame Classic.
