Lotto Soudal Ladies team strong at the Ronde

The Lotto Soudal Ladies performed well at Ronde van Vlaanderen past Sunday. Three riders of the team were part of the front group in the deep finale: Lotte Kopecky, Julie Van De Velde and Kelly Van den Steen. Unfortunately Kopecky had a puncture on the Paterberg.

There was an early break of seven riders, but because it had not much potential the Lotto Soudal Ladies remained in the bunch. The peloton split on the Kanarieberg, the sixth hill on the course. A group of about 30 riders, including Kopecky, Van De Velde and Van den Steen, arrived at the foot of the Oude Kwaremont together. It was on the Kwaremont that Marta Bastianelli, Annemiek van Vleuten and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig left their companions behind. Lotte Kopecky then punctured on the Paterberg, the last hill of the day. That way she couldn’t achieve a top result. Kopecky got 32nd at 3’26” of the race winner Bastianelli. Julie Van De Velde, who rode her very first Ronde van Vlaanderen, was 27th at 1’55”. Kelly Van den Steen and Demi de Jong arrived in a group a 4’38” as 49th and 53rd. Dani Christmas (73rd) and Belgian champion Annelies Dom (80th) crossed the finish line three minutes later.

The GP Dottignies was cancelled yesterday due to a lack of security motor bikes.
