As a neo-pro with Landbouwkrediet-Colnago, Maxime Monfort immediately impressed the cycling world by winning a stage as well as the GC of the Tour de Luxembourg in 2004. The rider who lives in the Ardennes is known as one of the best Belgian Grand Tour contenders of his generation. Thanks to his climbing and time trial abilities he achieved several top 20 places on the GC of the Giro, Tour and Vuelta. His best performance in a Grand Tour was in the Vuelta a España 2011: he finished sixth on GC. Monfort also was the national Belgian time trial champion in 2009, a title he took in Saint-Ghislain. He rode at non-Belgian teams for several years, until he signed with the former Lotto Belisol in 2014.
