Nikolas Maes began his pro career with Chocolade Jacques-Topsport Vlaanderen in 2007 and moved to Quickstep-Innergetic in 2010. The rider from West-Flanders signed with Lotto Soudal in 2017. The Spring Classics, in which his main role is to support his teammates, are among the favourite races of Nikolas Maes. The Belgian rider also took some nice victories himself. Besides winning the World Ports Classic in 2013 and the third stage of the Vuelta a Burgos 2009, he took some nice top 10 places in various stages of the Vuelta a España.
