Victor Campenaerts was part of the U23 team of the former Lotto Belisol team where he was a teammate of amongst others Tiesj Benoot. After he rode several years for Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise and Team LottoNL-Jumbo, he moved to Lotto Soudal in 2018. Over the years, Campenaerts developed himself into a real time trial specialist. He became the Belgian time trial champion in 2016 as well as in 2018. The Belgian triumphed during the European time trial championship in 2017 where he beat the Polish rider Bodnar and the Irishman Mullen. The next year, he prolonged his European time trial title in Glasgow. Besides some beautiful victories, he also obtained good time trial results in the Tour de Romandie and the Critérium du Dauphiné. In 2018, Campenaerts fell only two seconds short of taking the first pink jersey in the opening time trial of the 101st Giro d’Italia.
